Iron
Iron deficiency can feel like your body is running on empty. One of the most noticeable signs is pale skin, as your blood lacks the vibrant red hue provided by hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein dependent on iron. Without enough iron, oxygen delivery to your brain and tissues falters, leading to dizziness, especially when you stand or move quickly. Hair loss may occur as the body prioritizes essential functions over hair follicle health, resulting in thinning or excessive shedding. Brittle nails are another red flag; iron deficiency weakens their structure, making them prone to breaking. The fatigue you feel with low iron isn’t ordinary tiredness—it’s deep, unshakable exhaustion that lingers no matter how much rest you get. Shortness of breath, even during mild exertion, is another sign, as your body struggles to compensate for insufficient oxygen transport.

Calcium
When calcium levels drop, your body finds creative, albeit disruptive, ways to signal the deficiency. Brittle nails may appear first as the structural proteins in your nails weaken. Calcium is also vital for maintaining dental health, and a deficiency can lead to tooth decay as your body leaches calcium from teeth to sustain more critical functions. Chronic muscle twitching and tingling in your fingers are other telltale signs, stemming from impaired nerve signaling. If you’ve been feeling persistently lethargic, low calcium could be to blame—it plays a key role in muscle contraction and energy production. High blood pressure is another concerning symptom, as calcium helps regulate blood vessel function, and its absence can lead to increased tension in the circulatory system.

Magnesium
Magnesium is the mineral of relaxation, and when it’s lacking, your body may feel perpetually tense and fatigued. Muscle spasms are one of the most noticeable symptoms, as magnesium is essential for proper muscle function and relaxation. Anxiety can also take hold, as this mineral helps regulate stress hormones and promote calm. In cases of infertility, magnesium’s role in hormone regulation may be at play.
