Pine Respiratory Syrup

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 cup of fresh pine needles from a safe, non-toxic species
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup of marshmallow root
  • 1/2 cup of raw honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Instructions

  • Bring the water, pine needles, ginger, and marshmallow root to a simmer. It is essential not to boil the mixture, as high heat can destroy some of the beneficial compounds in the ingredients.
  • Let the mixture reduce to just over half its original volume, allowing the beneficial properties to infuse into the liquid.
  • Once reduced, strain out the herbs and transfer the liquid to a sanitized mason jar.
  • Add the honey, vanilla extract, and cinnamon, then stir well to combine.
  • Allow the syrup to cool completely before sealing the jar tightly with a sanitized lid.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to three months.
